Central Station Hotel
Project timeline | 2018 — 2019
The Central Station Hotel, a downtown Memphis staple for more than 100 years, connects the city through transportation, art, music, and culture. The space is now home to 48 of Anna’s curated art pieces ranging in medium. They intertwine the history of Memphis with the city around it and tap into the trainline connection between Chicago and New Orleans. Anna’s frequent visits to New Orleans, coupled with a visual analysis of the Chicago art scene, allowed for a cohesive introduction of cohesively edgy, thought-provoking, energetic and layered artwork. The collection transcends time, similar to the space itself, honoring work from emerging, established, old and new artists. A stroll through Central Station Hotel is an invitation into the soulful history of Memphis.
Issac Hayes
DEMOND MELANCON
During a research trip to New Orleans, Anna came across artist Demond Melancon exhibiting funky, meticulous beadwork featuring musicians like Aretha Franklin. Her grander vision for transitioned into a commissioned piece for the Central Station Hotel of Issac Hayes directly from his album cover called ‘Black Moses.’ The intricately, hand-sewn piece now resides in the hotel lobby, arms open wide, ready to receive guests and visitors.
The Wanderer
BEN BUTLER
Directly hit by the sunlight, Ben Butler’s ‘Wanderer’ lives on the wall of the ballroom in the subtle, warm tones of the Mississippi River’s muddy waters. Over 300 textured, wooden elements were assembled onsite and are based loosely on historical maps that trace shifting paths of the Mighty River. The installation pays homage to the traveler, passing through.

Even before there were walls in this restaurant, Anna knew a pair of large-scale paintings should fill the space. Her vision, an adaptation of Albrecht Durer’s ‘Praying Hands,’ came to life in a horizontal, colorful way, manipulating the medium and visualizing it differently in the given space.
